Getting Around Minneapolis

Visitors to Minneapolis have numerous transportation options in and around the downtown area. The Minneapolis Convention Center is located at the southern end of the downtown core, accessible via an air-conditioned sky bridge for those arriving on foot. The skyway is also within easy walking distance of more than one dozen parking ramps and garages. Metro Transit operates over 100 bus routes throughout the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, several of which take passengers directly from the central business district to the convention center. Metro Transit routes from the airport pass close by the MCC on their way to downtown.

Visitors can also choose to travel via light rail from the airport to downtown. There are a total of 19 rail stations located between Minneapolis International Airport and the northern warehouse district. The system includes stops at the Mall of America, Metrodome and the Nicollet Mall. Visitors to Minneapolis can take the Hiawatha Line to the Nicollet Mall Station and transfer to city buses that take them directly to the convention center. Metro Transit's Northstar Commuter Line connects downtown Minneapolis with the northern suburbs of Coon Rapids and Big Lake.

Many of the buildings in downtown Minneapolis are connected by a second floor walkway system. Those staying in downtown hotels can travel throughout the central business district without having to be exposed to the outside elements. Many of the office towers in downtown Minneapolis have Metro Transit bus stops near their main entrance.

Taxis can be found at numerous designated queues in the downtown area. Several large taxi stands are also found at the airport and the Mall of America. Taxi rides from the central business district to the MCC generally take less than five minutes.

Metro Mobility offers door-to-door service for people with disabilities. This special shuttle line operates throughout the metropolitan area and includes routes to the MCC, Mall of America and Minneapolis International Airport.

For those traveling by rental car, parking is available at one of the Exhibitor lots adjacent to the MCC. Long-term parking at one of these lots can be arranged by contacting the Exhibitor service office. Rental car agencies have customer reservations centers at the airport.

Most of the major hotels in Minneapolis have their own airport shuttle service. These shuttles will also take passengers to the Amtrak Station, Greyhound Bus Lines station, the MCC and light rail stations. Limousine service is available through licensed firms. Most of these companies will pick up passengers at the airport and drop them off at downtown hotels or the convention center.
